What do I need to provide to scrap my car?
You’ll need to provide your vehicle registration number, proof of ownership, and personal identification to ensure a smooth and legal transfer process.
Will you collect my car for scrapping and is there a charge?
Which common MOT failures lead to car scrapping?
Cars often fail MOT tests due to engine faults, excessive emissions, rust, brake failure, suspension issues, and warning lights.
If the repair costs exceed the car’s value, scrapping is often the best option.
Can you drive a SORN car to the scrapyard?
No, SORN (Statutory Off-Road Notification) vehicles cannot be driven on public roads.

What documents do I need to scrap my car?
In order to scrap your car, you will need to provide the following documents:
- A valid V5C registration certificate (or a letter of authority if you don’t have the V5C)
- Proof of ID (e.g. driving licence, passport)
I've lost my V5C. Can I still scrap my car?
Yes, you can still scrap your car if you’ve lost your V5C. You will need to apply for a replacement V5C from the DVLA before you can scrap your car.
How can I get a certificate of destruction?
We can provide a certificate of destruction (C.O.D) once your vehicle has been scrapped at an authorised treatment facility (A.T.F), usually within ten working days of collection.
You will need to request a C.O.D. to be issued before your vehicle is confirmed for collection by our transport team.

How do I fill out my logbook when scrapping my car?
Complete section 9 of your V5C and send it to the DVLA.
If you don’t have a V5C, you can still inform the DVLA online or by letter.
Do I need to remove my number plate before scrapping my car?
No, but if you want to keep your private plate, you must apply for a retention certificate (V317) from the DVLA before scrapping.
What is a Certificate of Destruction (CoD)?
A CoD is an official DVLA document confirming your car has been scrapped legally so that you’re no longer responsible for it.
It’s only issued for cars processed by Authorised Treatment Facilities (ATFs).
How do I get paid for my scrap car?
Payment is made via a secure BACS transfer.
Depending on your bank or building society, it may take up to 48 hours to clear through to your account.
Payment details only can be taken over the phone, and providing we have your details on file; payment will be processed the following working day.
What do I need for payment?
As in line with the scrap metal dealers act, we provide a fast and secure bank transfer.
We need your bank/ building society name, account number and sort code to make payment.
Never provide your long card number or CVV to a collection driver.
Why hasn't my payment cleared?
With BACS transfer, payment can take up to 48 hours to clear and is usually received the following working day.
Payment by cheque can take anywhere from 2-4 working days to be deposited into your account.

Why can’t I scrap my car for cash?
Cash payments for scrap vehicles are illegal in the UK under the Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013.
This law was introduced to prevent metal theft and ensure all transactions are traceable and secure.
All payments for scrap cars must be made via bank transfer or cheque to comply with legal regulations.

Can I book a specific time for my scrap car collection?
We arrange collections between 8 am-12 pm and 12 pm-5 pm, but exact timings may vary due to traffic and scheduling.
Our drivers will call you 30-60 minutes before arrival.
Do you collect on bank holidays?
We cannot guarantee a collection on bank holidays, however, our network of vehicle recyclers can pick up and scrap vehicles every other day, with morning and afternoon slots available to our customers.
Can you collect my scrap car when I'm not there?
If you’re at work or out of town.
As you, the registered keeper, is not present, we will need a valid photo ID from someone you can trust.
They will have to be present at the vehicle’s location to handle collection with transport.
Can I change the date of my scrap car collection?
If your availability suddenly changes, do not worry; we can still accommodate you.
Please notify us ideally before the collection day if you need to change your collection time.
We will then arrange another suitable collection date for you.
